Why all the plants?

If you’ve stepped into our space within the last year or so you might’ve found yourself asking if you’re in the right space. “Is this a plant nursery or a hair salon?”

I like to think its an even mix of both.

Taylor & York’s journey to a plant oasis began almost two years ago. I was on Instagram and saw how plants were being used as a design feature. Shortly after that a friend tagged me in a post from Hilton Carter (@hiltoncarter) where I was instantly transported into a magical space. I began to see the salon space and all its potential.

Fast forward two years and we are now known for our plants as much as we are our hairdressing. It’s made an incredible impact on our clients. Upon entering our space they notice the clear air. We’ve even had customers and friends say they’ve been inspired to purchase plants for their home and office spaces just by visiting our space! Plants are a living organism. You can feel their energy and they can feel yours.

We take care of our customers and their hair. We ensure that it’s healthy as well as beautiful. We wanted to make the salon experience a reflection of that. Communicating the mantra that how you feel is just as important as how you look. Plants make you feel good. Plants can help bring life to your space so try one! (or be like us and try 72!) Yes, we have 72 plants … and counting!

I’ll leave you with these final words of advice for anyone thinking of getting a plant: start with one that’s low maintenance!

My very first plant was a pothos.  This is by far the easiest and most communicative plant for beginners. Their leaves will droop when they need attention which is a clear indicator of need for water. They grow leafs relatively quickly AND they don’t require a lot of light!

Another would be the snake plant.  This one is even easier than the pothos! They literally don’t need watering for weeks. In fact, too much water will kill them so the dryer the soil the better. Another plus is that the snake plant doesn’t require any light which makes it perfect for those of you that don’t have a lot of light in your space.

Give a plant some love and I guarantee it will love you back!
